According to the Mansfield Division of Police, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Main Street, near the alley behind the Jones Printing Shop between South Main and Lexington Avenue.

The victim, identified as Jamyrione Hobbs, 18, of Mansfield, was initially transported from the scene by Mansfield Fire/EMS and taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m. by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities initially described the victim as a juvenile, but later confirmed his identity and age.

Richland County Sheriff Steve Sheldon said deputies assisted at the scene after hearing radio traffic about the shooting, helping manage calls while Mansfield Police detectives launched their investigation.

Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann sought to calm concerns in the community, stating, “We want to reassure the community that this does not appear to be a random act, and there is no immediate danger to the public.”

No suspect has been identified at this stage, and the investigation remains active. Police confirmed a firearm was used but have not released details on possible motives or suspects.
