MANSFIELD, Ohio โ Authorities have released further details following a deadly shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man early Sunday in Mansfield.
According to the Mansfield Division of Police, officers responded to reports of gunfire aroundย 11:30 a.m.ย in theย 200 block of South Main Street, near the alley behind the Jones Printing Shop between South Main and Lexington Avenue.
The victim, identified asย Jamyrione Hobbs, 18, of Mansfield, was initially transported from the scene byย Mansfield Fire/EMSย and taken toย OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead atย 12:06 p.m.ย by theย Richland County Coronerโs Office.
Authorities initially described the victim as a juvenile, but later confirmed his identity and age.
Richland County Sheriff Steve Sheldonย said deputies assisted at the scene after hearing radio traffic about the shooting, helping manage calls while Mansfield Police detectives launched their investigation.
Mansfield Police Chiefย Jason Bammannย sought to calm concerns in the community, stating,ย โWe want to reassure the community that this does not appear to be a random act, and there is no immediate danger to the public.โ
No suspect has been identified at this stage, and the investigation remains active. Police confirmed a firearm was used but have not released details on possible motives or suspects.
