Jack Janecek Shiner TX Obituary: A Life of Kindness, Humility, and Purpose

The community of Shiner, Texas, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jack Janecek, who passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the young age of 24. Jack’s passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, students, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. A devoted son, brother, teacher, and friend, Jack’s life was a radiant example of kindness, humility, and purpose.

Early Life and Education
Born on July 1, 2000, in Yoakum, Texas, to David and Leah (Wagner) Janecek, Jack was raised in a loving family rooted in faith and service.

He graduated from St. Paul High School in 2018, where he was known for his academic excellence, strong character, and joyful personality. Jack’s academic achievements and character earned him a spot at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his degree in 2022.

Teaching Career
Jack found his calling in teaching and became a high school math teacher at St. Dominic Savio Catholic School in Austin. His dedication to his students was evident in every lesson he taught, every conversation he had, and every extra effort he made to ensure students felt supported and understood. In 2024, his excellence was formally recognized when he was awarded the โ€œTeacher of the Yearโ€ honorโ€”a testament to his passion, mentorship, and impact in the classroom.

Faith and Community Involvement
Faith was central to Jack’s life. He was a devout member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America Troop 231, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Netardus Council #3081.

His commitment to service, humility, and compassion were hallmarks of his character. Those who knew Jack often remarked that he didnโ€™t just speak of faithโ€”he lived it, daily and authentically, through acts of love and kindness.

Personal Life
Outside of his teaching role, Jack lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity. He was a gifted cook, a lifelong fisherman, and a fierce but joyful competitor when it came to games of all kinds. Whether at the poker table, a dominoes match, or a spirited game of Bananagrams, Jack brought energy, humor, and a bit of good luck wherever he went. Friends and family fondly recall his quick wit and deep laughโ€”both of which could brighten the darkest day.

Legacy
Jack’s love for others was never in questionโ€”he expressed it freely and without hesitation. He made everyone feel seen, valued, and cherished. In his actions and demeanor, Jack truly embodied the Beatitudes, offering comfort, peace, and grace to all those around him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Funeral Services
A Vigil Mass followed by the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the same church, officiated by Fr. Bob Knippenberg. Interment will follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jay Berger, Jacob Darilek, Pete Marcak, Max Patek, Shayne Phillips, Michael Wagner, Nathan Wagner, and Ryan Wagner.

Surviving Family
Jack is survived by his loving parents, David and Leah Janecek; his sister, Maria Janecek; his brothers, Ben Janecek (Laura), Dr. Jed Janecek (Morgan), and Hank Janecek; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Rachel Janecek, and his grandparents, Dr. John Dennis and Bertie Wagner and Gilbert and Benita Janecek.
